I’ve raved about Liberty London cotton lawn but it is pricey so today I want to discuss more affordable fabric options. For the Liberty London lawn lovers, see my Liberty London Source Guide here and my Liberty fabric projects here.
UPDATE July 15, 2018: Also check out my updated post about cotton lawn options here.

Cotton Lawn
- Robert Kaufman London Calling – This collection of cotton lawn prints ranges from $10-$13 a yard. The red floral print on the left below is my favorite from this collection.
- Robert Kaufman Lennox Gardens – This is another collection of cotton lawn prints that range from $10-$13 a yard. The purple floral print on the right below is my favorite from this collection.
- Alexander Henry Fulham Road – This collection of cotton lawn is from a few years back. I’ve recently discovered this line when I saw this Oxford Butterfly print.
- Regent Street Lawn – This is a collection of cotton lawn by Sentimental Studios for Moda. I’ve seen this collection sold on fabric.com for $11.50 per yard.
- Cotton and Steel – A new collection of lawn I’ve found recently but yet to see in real life. I’ve found this fabric for $14-15 per yard online.
- The cotton lawn printed in Japan has the feel and weight similar to Liberty lawn. Below are a few Japanese prints I’ve bought. I’m partial to the cat print on the far right. I bought my Japanese lawn from Miss Matatabi on Etsy. Great Etsy shop and even sent me samples of fabric I was on the fence about. Note that fabric from Japan are typically 42″-44″ width so you are getting less fabric for the price compared to Liberty lawn which is 53″ width excluding selvage. Prices range between $13-$20 per meter.
Consider combining solid or subtle patterns with prints to stretch your yardage. I’ve bought Kaufman Cotton lawn for $7-8 a yard at fabric.com depending if there is a sale.
Cotton Voile
If you like cotton lawn consider sewing with cotton voile. I find cotton voile to to be slightly more sheer than cotton lawn but I think it depends on the fabric manufacturer. I’ve read that lawn is softer to the hand than voile but I can’t really tell the difference. Also consider combining prints with solid color voile ( $6 a yard on fabric.com ) like I’ve done with this Liberty London patchwork top to stretch your yardage.
I’ve found these voile fabrics online ranging from $14-$17 a yard.
- Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Valori Wells, and Joel Dewberry offer some of their quilt fabric prints in voile.
- Art Gallery Fabrics has a lovely collection of cotton voile prints.
- Cloud9 Fabrics also has a few collections of cotton voile prints.
- Birch Fabrics has prints in organic voile.
What collection of cotton lawn or voile do you like to sew with? I would love to hear your comments. Thanks for dropping by today and happy “mad” fabric shopping.
